This book is definitely not for absolute beginners. Unlike the first edition of this book, which had a Beginner/Intermediate reader level, this edition has an Intermediate/Advanced reader level. That’s not to say the book is for professional programmers or network administrators. Prior Windows 95, 98, ME, or 2000 experience is fine. You just need to be familiar with terms and concepts that haven’t really changed in the last 15 or 20 years.

For example :

You know the difference between a live mouse and the one you use to control yourcomputer.
When you see a reference to something that’s "on the screen” or "on the desktop,”you know where to look.
You can point, click, double-click, and drag without specific how-to instructions.
You can press Ctrl+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Del all by yourself.
You know what an icon looks like.
You can tell the difference between a program, a folder, and a document.
You have an Internet account and know your own e-mail address.
When you see a URL like www.microsoft.com, you know what it is and how to getthere.
You can click on hyperlinks in Web pages.
You realize that neither clicking harder, or yelling at, a disabled (dimmed) option willmake the option "wake up.”
You’ve accepted the fact that your PC can’t read your mind.
