Great Britain's long-running sci-fi serial continues, on television and in Doctor Who: The Adventure Games for personal computers. Originally released online by the BBC, for free download by UK residents, The Adventure Games follow parallel plotlines that support the concurrent television series, with interrelated developments in both that are intended to be considered part of the Doctor Who canon. Using the mouse and keyboard for control, players directly guide The Doctor and his companion in full 3D environments. Play involves situational puzzles, 3D platforming, mini-games, and stealth-action sequences, which must be completed to proceed through the story.
"Shadows of the Vashta Nerada" is the fourth and final episode in the original series of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games. With a lead-in from the previous episode's cliffhanger, the Doctor and Amy Pond find themselves in a seabed colony called Poseidon, just in time for the holidays. Although the undersea base is threatened by a true monster -- an enormous, armor-clad, alien shark -- its inhabitants suffer a darker malady. A strange illness has spread among the crew, leading to chaos, computer-enforced quarantine, and a deathly fear of dark places. Doctor Who: The Adventure Games feature the voices and likenesses of the Series Five star actors, with Karen Gillan as Amy and Matt Smith as the Doctor.
